Rival to the Queen By Carolly Erickson

Summary:The Virgin Queen Elizabeth I and her heart's consort, Lord Robert Dudley, the earl of Leicester, continue to exert a seductive hold on the imagination as fodder for fiction. Now Erickson examines a rival for Lord Dudley's affections, Leticia or Lettie Knollys, a Boleyn relative who, along with her sister, served in Elizabeth's court and eventually became Lady Leicester.
My Thoughts:
I was really looking forward to this book since I really love Plaidy's My Enemy The Queen on Leticia Knollys but Erickson did something to her story and made it completely boring. Lettie had none of the fire she held in My Enemy. She never really faces Elizabeth until the end of the book. the scene where she find her husband Dudley "entertaining" the queen was the last straw for me I couldn't see Lettie running off crying like a little ninny at least its not the way I would have wanted her to handle the situation.Up until now I have always enjoyed Erickson's books this one makes  me hesitate to purchase her next one.
